Built in authentication

Hi! I'm teaching some basic ASP.NET.
 
I have looked at a solution for login-page.
 
There is the built in forms-authentication but I seem to work bad.
 
Login works sometimes and sometimes not. Doesn't seem so stable or maybe I am doing something wrong.
 
Is this something you would use on a live site?
 
What else should you use?
